Why is Instagram reel content the queen of engagement right now?

Instagram shook the foundation of our planet when they recently announced it’s no longer a photo sharing platform and will make a concerted effort to compete with TikTok. We heard Gen Zers jump and millennials fall to the floor in utter disbelief. Discussion forums quickly flooded with never ending threads about pivoting social strategies and tactics. But this really should come to no surprise. Social platforms evolve rapidly, which propel us to adapt. If we don’t, we’re left in Jurassic Park with dinosaurs reading the archaic yellow pages.

In all honesty, I wasn’t too shocked to hear this news. Why? Because Instagram is wickedly strategic and proactive. They’ve been grooming us for months now with the release of reels - TikTok’s “friendly” cousin. The algorithm was and still is rewarding reel users by syndicating content out to more eyeballs on the platform, increasing visibility in the discovery section. This translates to more followers, more clicks to the site and more conversions. IG also rewards you for viewer retention. So this means the more creative your content is and the longer viewers watch, the more exposure you get! That’s the formula folks. Until they change it up again!

In today’s world, snappy short form content is the name of the game. So it’s time to produce more of it to ultimately see the growth results we all want — more customers and sales.
