Can you smell the sweet summertime breeze swirling in? Amidst the sprinkle of May gloom, San Diegans are ready for sun rays to shower us with discernible tan lines and naturally balayaged hair. We’re on the cusp of being called to lay out by the salty sea. Am I painting the stereotypical San Diego summer landscape yet? I guess one more signature element might be missing — that is, enjoying this glorified weather with a can of San Diego craft beer.

My fiancé and I are lucky enough to live right next to our all time favorite brewery, which is Thorn Brewing Co.  As beer enthusiasts, this is pretty fortuitous if you ask me. PS: If you follow me on IG, you might spot us on on the patio Friday nights with our pup Benji.

Okay enough nonsense. I’ll get straight to the main point. We love Thorn because every Friday, they release something new. On Thursday nights, our tastebuds are revving with surges of anticipation.

It’s safe to say, Thorn Brewing is a San Diego craft beer pioneer and utterly experimental. Since beginning in North Park, they’ve proliferated, with locations in Mission Hills and Barrio Logan.

Thorn’s ethos is quality over quantity, which is quite evident after just one swig.

Today, I’m sipping on my favorite category of beer with a seasonal “fruity forward” twist.

Enter in Mango Madness, Fruited Hazy IPA, 7.2% ABV.  Sidebar: The base of this release is Thorn’s Hopster Pot.

Are your ears perked up yet?

Within one solid gulp, you’ll envision yourself catching waves on the coast in a polka dot bikini. Too much? Okay, I’m clearly a fan. Mango is the star protagonist here, but I do pick up subtle notes of berry (as listed on the label). Also a faint hint of cedar is present, lending to its “earthy” description on the can.

I can keep going on, but you most definitely need to give it a try yourself before it’s completely off the shelves. This is a summertime must-have if you’re in San Diego!
